Got all the new bands up!

Look for new material from:

Heavenly (Two albums)
Oratory
Galloglass
Battlelore
Blind Guardian
Nocturnal Rites

All of this stuff is good, but I just have to say, Galloglass is amazing, fast and heavy, and still managing to be symphonic sounding and very clean. My other favorite of the new material so far is Adagio, an all French band which slightly less heavy and slightly more melodic than Galloglass.

Head over to http://radio.kailef.com and grab a request or two. They tend to play about fifteen minutes or so after the request is placed.

Okay, I need a favor from everyone - Visit http://radio.kailef.com and tell me if you can listen to the Live365 stream. I've done a bunch of investigation and if I dont broadcast under someone else's blanket license, it costs a truly insane amount of money. (An absolute minimum of $2000 US dollars a year. Yuck.) It's because I need to pay broadcast fees to the license holders of each song, per broadcast, per listener. It adds up quite quickly.

Broadcasting through Live365 negates those fees because they pay them all, that's the good news. The bad news is, they sometimes play an advertisement when you first start the player, and they occasionally have an annoying pop-up ad appear while you listen.

Try it out, and let me know <a> if it works, and <b> if the ads are too annoying.

Ah, these ad things are annoying, if they are as intrusive as most of the stations off winamp.com. This does not bode well...

Edit: And it makes you download some player, and I think I'll pass.

I've had it up for the last several hours, and it seems fine. It's a java-based player, so it doesn't actually have a program it installs unless you download their stupid player that you have to buy.

The good thing so far is the ads are very sparse at best. In the last hour I saw only one, so I'm not particularly annoyed with it so far. It beats paying thousands of dollars. :-) Anyone else care to test besides me?

Hey - You can now reach Epic Rock Radio at http://www.epicrockradio.com (imagine that!) The old URL, http://radio.kailef.com will still work, however.

Also, and this part is important - We have started streaming through Live365 instead of our old provider. Although our old provider was great, we found out that it'll cost us thousands of dollars a year in royalty / performance fees to operate the station. Live365 absorbs the performance fees for us, allowing us to remain on the air.

Those of you who have us saved in your media/mp3 player's favorites will find that you'll need to go back to our website and use the new "Listen Now" link.

While you're there, cast a vote for us! It helps boost our ratings and puts us higher in their search engine.

We've added 6 new bands to our rotation, including albums from Persuader, Forgotten Tales, Gaia Epicus, Beholder, Celesty, and Elvenking.

Most of these bands have a 'fantasy' sort of feel to them - They spend a great deal of time singing about large scale clashes of fantasy armies, spells, and other things of that sort. I especially like Forgotten Tales. Persuader is a little more harsh than I usually prefer, but it's good nontheless.

We're slowly moving up the ranks at Live365, and by the end of our first month of broadcasting I'm hoping to push the station all the way up onto the first page of their 'metal' listing. We need to accumulate just a hair less than 3000 total listening hours between all of our listeners for that to happen, but it may happen becuase we're beginning to aquire a small following who leaves the station on for most of the day. (Well, most of them are doing it as a favor to me, honestly.) Anyhow, once we get to that first page, we'll be popular enough that the station's monthy expenses will be substantially offset by the number of listeners we have. Plus, if we grab that coveted 'first page' position, it tends to make people listen to you more because, well, you're on the first page. Heh.

By the way, all the music that has been added so far has been recommendations from our listners. If you'd like something added as well, just let me know! I'll have to review it to make sure it fits with the station's genre, but if it does, odds are I'll do it.

We had some downtime on Wednesday night for about an hour and a half or so. The ERR server's Internet connection (A fiber cable modem) abruptly stopped working, with same symptoms as we experienced a few days ago. The cable company was supposed to come and check everything out today, but they didn't come at the time we asked for so nobody was here. *growl*

So, after getting really upset, I took an emergency trip to a friend's house to borrow their cable modem - No good, it still didn't work. So, at about 11:00 PM at night, I went outside with a flashlight to trace down the cable line and see if I could find the source of the problem. I didn't find anything particularly obvious, but I came across a coaxial three-way splitter. So, I removed, cleaned, and reconnected all of the outlets... When I came back inside, presto, the Internet connection was working again!

I tell you what, you guys: I can't explain just how angry I was! I'd tell you what I did, but you'd never look at me the same way again...! I'm just glad that it's up and working now - I would have gone insane heading off to work tomorrow knowing the station would be offline all day.

Okay, so, I lied. I thought I was going to wait until next month. Oh well.

Just an amusing point of note: Epic Rock Radio recently reached its 20th anniversary. Not bad at all, hmm? I'm not sure what I was originally expecting when I made the station public, but I don't think I imagined it would be around for 20 years, and still remain really popular.
