Blizzard to re-release Classic WoW Server!

There's no details on exactly what this will be, or when it will happen, but I'm totally up for renewing my WoW subscription if Blizzard is going to do this!  I'm very excited about a legitimate Vanilla server.  (Especially if it's pre 1.9 when I can get a super-fast Frostwolf, or at least early enough that I can get Broken Tooth with that 1.0 attack speed!)

There have been various and sundry ways to play Classic WoW through unaffiliated private/emulated servers like Nostralius and Elysium, but all of those means have been somewhat unstable.  Run by volunteers and somewhat questionable with regard to their legal status, they have not been a reliable long-term method of playing.  You put in a year or two of character development and log in one day to find that the servers are gone.

I really enjoyed the challenges posed by Classic WoW, and the much more significant and defined differences between the character classes.  If Blizzard does this right - Giving us the classic experience with WoW's current, modern game engine...  This would really be something I'd enjoy.  They need to be careful though, and keep the clearly defined differences in place.  It would be easy to blur the lines between Classic and what WoW has become, and I think that would be a mistake.

It doesn't reveal a lot more info, but it does delve a bit into Bilzzard's overall attitude, and it sounds good.  They are definitely in it for the long haul.  From what it says, they plan to start and maintain the Vanilla servers for as long as World of Warcraft is around.  I think that's awesome.

I was both heartened, and a tad disappointed by that article.

For no good reason at all, I had imagined it as being playable by next summer. But if it's as involved as they're making it sound, may be a bit longer.

But I do really like everything else they're saying. And... I'll wait for it to be done right!

I continue to be really excited about the idea of a classic server.  I really miss the challenge and sense of accomplishment I got from classic WoW.  Especially as I tend to prefer hunters, all the work you put into your pet made them really special.

In current WoW, hunter pets are automatically your level when you get them, you can have a ton of them, you can switch them at will, your weapon has infinite ammo, you don't have to manage your dead zone (the area between melee and bow/gun range where you can't attack at all) and... well, overall, it's just too easy now.  All classes can change specs at will to do whatever they want, there's just no specialization to make a particular character unique, you know what I mean?  It's not that the game is now bad - Lots of people still really enjoy it.  It's just... Not what I personally want to play.

I do wish that Blizzard had at an idea what the timeline was.  Maybe they could release monthly progress reports or something to keep us excited for launch.  That'd be cool.

I hunt around for news every few weeks but so far Blizzard has been very silent on the subject.  But I'll definitely mention it here once it happens.  I'm looking forward to "getting the old team back together", or at least as many are still interested.  :-)

I dare to dream that when they release Classic WoW that we'll be able to at least get some of the old group back together and have ourselves some fun again.  Maybe I'm just overly nostalgic, but I really feel that it would be a blast.

Anyone heard any news on a release date or any progress towards it?  I check around every week or so, but so far I haven't found anything...

People are saying it won't happen until the latest expansion is released, if not afterwards. Hoping for sooner rather than later!

Obviously, we are getting the old band back together. My question is: what faction and what mains are people planning on playing? Faction doesn't really matter for me as much, but I am planning on doing a healer, most likely a holy/discipline priest. I loved my holy pally back in the day, but I want more versatility the second time around.
