Google Maps
« on: March 28, 2015, 07:45:51 AM »
While totally off topic, I have a feeling we all spend a lot of time around tech.  I figured it's best to ask at that point.

I spend a great deal of time on my motorcycle.  My problem is that Google Maps keeps trying to pull me off the fun motorcycle roads that I spent so much time (30 seconds) creating on the PC for its more efficient route.

I understand that the guys at Google assume that everybody is on a mission, and has to get there in a hurry, which is great if you live in a cage.  Since the twisty roads have lower speed limits, they're often inefficient.  Worse is when it continually displays its fetish for toll roads after I explicitly tell it "not no, but <expletive> no!"

So how do I lock my route?

I'm afraid that when I'm using Google Maps, I don't ever really go so far in-depth as that, since generally I am looking for the most efficient route, being a the four-wheeled SUV sort of guy that I am.

Maps?!? Pffft... we don't need no stinking maps!

Flamethrowers are proof that somewhere, sometime, someone thought to themselves "You see those people over there? I sure would like to set them on fire, I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

Honestly, Shanni, I've had great experiences without the gps.  The sad thing is that it does speed up the ride and improve enjoyment as I no longer am stopping at intersections, but cornering as hard as my nerves will allow.  Getting lost was great, but work demands that I find my way around with some degree of planning now.

My  wife is a yard sale guru. We live  in an ever changing area of the country. The largest city in Volusia county. The fast growing city of Deltona in Florida. We use  Map Quest because it seems to have the most update maps in our area, which is constantly adding streets..

I am lost. I have gone to look for myself. If I return before I get back, please ask me to wait.

Stalephreak I think I know exactly what you're talking about.  What  you really want is something to track Waypoints.

I haven't found a way to do it yet, at least not with the standard Google App.

Are you using an Android phone?  If so, you might want to try this app: GPS Waypoints Navigator

If you're using an iPhone, you might look at Easy GPS

I'm on android, and thanks, I'll give it a shot.  If it does audio, and is smart enough to go from one waypoint to the next as a I pass them, I'm sold!

The cheapness of the user prevented accurate testing of the software.
